PRR Shark B Unit that was formerly at the Sullivan Trail Breaker. This is such a favorite subject it has been moved to the top of the home page. Both the Sullivan Trail Breaker and the B Unit Shark is gone. MORE D&H Model Locomotive at Pizza Perfect Now they have a D&H locomotive hauling the train around the dining room in Pizza Perfect. Over the years they had a lot of different trainsets and rolling stock on thier layout. Lots of memoroblia too. D&H Model Train, Pizza Perfect R&N Passenger Train Returning To Pittston The Excursion Season for 2025 is back underway. This is a passenger train returning from Jim Thorpe. This is a good trip. Can't wait to ride this again. Sightings 03.22.25 / R&N Passenger Train Returning to Pittston CNJ Trestle White Haven This little trestle crosses a creek that feeds into the Lehigh River near White Haven. This is in Lehigh Gorge State Park. A new span was put in when the park was upgraded in 2023 CNJ Trestle White Haven Wikes-Barre CNJ Station Listed for Sale Local media reports that the old Central of New Jersey Station in Wilkes-Barre is on the Market. Luzerne County expressed intrest in it. The Visitor Center is in it. Former LV Trestle, Duryea, PA This trestle, oringally from the Lehigh Valley RR took the mainline out of Coxton Yard/Pittston Junction, over the main road and up the mountain. Former Lehigh Valley Trestle, Duryea PowerRail Distribution Center, Exeter, PA Some interesting things like an ex Conrail Caboose outside at locomotie parts facility. PowerRail Distribution Center, Exeter D&W Milepost, Exter, PA Along the former Bloomsburg Line is a Milepost. Off of Laird Stret. Looks like there were several tracks in the area. Once this was a busy line with a lot of coal traffic. DL&W Milepost, Laird Street, Exeter, PA O&W Abutments, Riverwalk Trail, Carbondale A playground and Park is a trailhead. Artwork adorns some old bridge abutments. The artwork captures the history of the area. Riverwalk Trail, O&W Abutment, Carbondale, PA Trestle, Olive Street Scranton Stone and concrente walls line this part of Olive Strert in Scranton. A trestle crosses the road here. An interesting section of road. Trestle, Olive Street, Scranton Old Cliff Street Bridge This was the old bridge across the Lackawanna River. The CNJ is in the background. This is a rescan of an old Kodak Disc Camera Shot. The shape of the bridge is kind of neat. Old Cliff St. Bridge (Rescanned) Woodward Bridge, Northampton, PA On the way to do photography of the Siegfried Depot the route included this bridge. Woodward Bridge, Northampton, PA Quakertown Train Station Was down visting Q-Mart. Rainy day before the big snow storm. Not many cars by the station or no locomotives. It is a beautiful building. Thre was an envent going on. Quakertown Train Station and Boxcar Green Street Bridge, Scranton This little one span bridge crosses the current DL&W main, formerly the D&H. It has a strange design. Looks like the railings were retrofitted. Green Street Bridge, Scranton, PA Ex Cartier Units This past summer (June '24) the DL was doing some work on these new units they purchased. The Von Storch Shops were full of these red and black locomotives. Ex Cartier Units At Von Storch Shops Former Carbon Sales Spur Some ties and some rails are all that is left of a spur that serverd this industry before it closed. For many years there was a stranded UP box car. Former Carbon Sales Spur Another "Pumpkin Head" at Steamtown The DL got another one of the ex Cartier units working and on the road. Did not realize this was a different unit until comparing numbers. DL 3612 "Pumpkin Head" at Steamtown Grablick's Truck This old truck was from Grablick's Dairy. It has been sitting in Lispi's Junkyard for a long time. My uncle had a pin that said "I was a pig at Grablicks': ... you got that when you ate the "Pig's Dinner" It was like 10 scoops of ice cream in a sundae form. Grablick's Truck, Lispi's Junk Yard Nicholson Northern Electric Station This was a real find. Nestled in Nordahl Park is a former trolley line station The small white wood building is used by the Nicholson American Legion. It is a neat peice of History Nicholson Northern Electric Station Epic Railfanning Tour of Stations Was off on Veterans Day and did an epic tour of Stations and Railroad related locations that I never were to before. Sightings 11.10.23 / Epic Railfan Tour of Stations Ironton Rail To Trail (IRT) Made it down to Whitehall to walk on the Ironon Rail to Trail. A very nice trail. Lots of interesting Railroad and Indutrial related things along the tral. The Ironton was a belt line that served Cement and Steel induatry in the area Ironton Rail Trail Siegfried Depot This is a former Lehigh Valley Railroad Depot. The Northampton Historircal Socicaty operates the buidling now. I have to visit when the Depot is open. Is is a neat little buidling. Siegfried Depot Older Photos :Duryea, Late 80's PNER 87 trundles down the Bloomsburg Line in Duryea, before the Shopping center was built. At this point in time the area was just an empty field. Duryea, Late 80's Frozen Falling Springs Here is a shot of Falling springs all frozen over, Winter, Early 1990s. The whole waterfall is frozen and the little pond at the bottom too. Found some more shots of it when digging thru some old photos. Eventually the car was scrapped. MORE Vulcan 1984 Here are some photos and descriptions of the Vulcan in 1984. This proves that it was in running order when it came to Wilkes-Barre. A L&WV NHRS member handed this to me at the October Meeting. MORE
Photography Articles :Telephoto Lens from K-Mart K-Mart used to carry Focal brand cameras and binoculars. They had Pentax K-1000s and also Focal brand equipment such as binoculars. Got a good bargin and used it for years Got the Telephoto Lens For Pentax from K-Mart Pentax K1000 from Jewelcor. Bought my Pentax K1000 from a local Catalog Showroom called Jewelcor. I knew nothing about photography, except the cheap 35mm point and shoot cameras you got at drugstores were not so good. Moved up to al SLR. Got my Pentax K-1000 from Jewelcor Pentax Lens Cap Lost and Found Back in the early 90s, lost my Pentax Lens Cap in Scranton by the old O&W ROW. Historical Markers / Cornerstones, etc.History is all around us. Historical Markers. Cornerstones, Keystones, Plaques and other architectural features document history. They are on the sides of roads, on the foundations of schools and churches. Many older buildings had a name and date on the keystone at the very top. It is easy to miss these things as you go about your business in your daily life. Once you become aware of these traces of history you will develop a keen eye and a keen eye for history, of all kinds.
